November, a month best known for Thanksgiving, also holds importance in Native American culture. In order to enlighten Clark students, the college is throwing a powwow Friday to honor Native American Heritage Month.

"Educating for the Seventh Generation," a celebration of indigenous American cultures, takes place Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center. Students and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Native American flute maker and player Isaac Trimble will commence the evening with a welcome address and a performance. Event staffers will provide attendees with an abundance of Native American tacos.

Multicultural Retention Manager Felisciana Peralta says that getting education about cultures frees people from adhering to preconceived notions and stereotypes. "It's (the event) honoring, celebrating, and respecting our communities, and a huge part of our community is Native American. It's an education piece and that's what we're here about."
