Clark College President Bob Knight will give a State of the College address on Jan. 19 in the Gaiser Student Center. Doors will open to the public at 10:30 a.m. and the address will start at 11 a.m.
"Historically, when the president delivers this address, he looks back over the past year – and ahead at least one year – frequently, more than one year," Barbara Kerr , the executive director of communications and marketing, said in an email. "And, of course, this year, it would be impossible to have a realistic discussion without focusing on state budget cuts – which have impacted programs and services – and led to higher tuition for our students," said Kerr.
According to a Jan. 5 news release, speaking points include how Clark's budget is being affected by the Legislature meeting in Olympia, plans regarding the programs at Clark, announcements for the first inductees into the Clark College Athletic Hall of Fame and the winners of the 2012 Iris Awards.
Guests are encouraged to bring in nonperishable food items to the event. All donations will go to the Share Vancouver Backpack Program in an effort to help feed the region's K-12 students.
"We know that supplies at food banks run low after the holidays," Knight said in the release. " We also know that many people in our region are struggling. This is a wonderful opportunity for the college to give back to our community as a thank you for the support they have given to us."
